Hi, will this incoming data compression feature be available to local deployment, or cloud only?

@Andrey Pechkurov OSS will have it anyday? It feels like a standard feature that all other contenders offer in OSS.

@Nicolas Hourcard this is defo a feature that will bring more people in through OSS, which is the “open door” to more people know about QuestDB. And won’t affect business model from cloud/enterprise.

hey Gabriel, the first rollout for Compression will be for Cloud/Enterprise, which will also include role-based access control. Compression is something that is very likely to eventually trickle down to OSS in the future, but this is not something we can commit to now. The idea is to move as much as we can to fully open source over time, but we have to be cautious and time it well. We’d rather choose this approach than promising open source before reverting back, which we feel would remove trust from the community. Each player in the space has its own approach; we chose to offer a fully open source Apache 2.0 repo, and build close source features on top to differentiate the offerings. We propose this package via the managed cloud hosted solution but also for on prem/self hosted via QuestDB Enterprise
